DRC And Nkunda Have Agreed On a Fragile Cease-Fire

After days of heavy fighting between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and renegade General Laurent Nkunda, the two sides reached an agreement on Thursday (9-6-07) to observe a cease-fire. The two sides have reportedly agreed to solve their differences through dialogue.

His call came after the government, backed by the United Nations, attacked rebel positions with helicopter gunships in two parts of North Kivu province. The rebels are also asking the international community to put pressure on the Kinshasa government to come to the peace table.
