Violence in North Kivu Kills 21, Mostly Women, Children

DRC map, North Kivu provinceOfficials said they suspected Ugandan rebels have killed at least 21 people in DRC's North Kivu province. The French news agency, AFP, reported Saturday most of the victims of the overnight attack were women and children who were hacked and clubbed to death. The assault happened 45 kilometers from the village of Beni where 26 people were killed earlier in the week.

Lac Albert between Congo and UgandaA total of 251 Congolese refugees returning to their country from a refugee camp in Uganda died on Saturday in a boat accident on Lake Albert, Congolese government spokesman Lambert Mende has said. North Kivu governor Julien Paluku said the search will continue to find other bodies. He said 251 bodies have been recovered out of 292 that were onboard the ill-fated boat.
New DR Congo amnesty law welcomed by UN envoys

The adopted law grants amnesty for acts of insurgency, acts of war and political offenses. The Envoys commend the new law for excluding amnesty for crimes such as genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.
